Interactive Family History Map

ArcGIS Interactive Map

Our interactive family history map, built using ArcGIS, brings your ancestors’ stories to life by showing where they lived, traveled, and built their lives over time. Instead of just reading about your family’s past, you can see it unfold geographically.

What the map shows

Each point or region on the map represents a place connected to your family’s story — such as:

  • Birthplaces, marriages, and burial sites
  • Migration routes showing how families moved over time
  • Historic photos or records linked to specific locations
  • Cultural or historical landmarks relevant to your ancestors’ lives

How to Use the Map

  1. Zoom and Pan: Use your mouse or touchscreen to zoom in on a particular area or explore new regions.
  2. More Info: Select any location marker to see detailed information about that ancestor or event.
  3. Filter by Family Line or Time Period: Toggle layers or filters to focus on specific branches of your family or a certain century.
  4. View Migration Paths: Follow the color-coded lines that trace how families moved from one region to another.
  5. Search for a Name or Place: Use the search bar to quickly locate relatives or historical sites on the map.
